National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend the grand Dussehra celebrations at IP Extension in East Delhi. Security arrangements were massive with over 20,000 personnel deployed. The stage was set for Ravan Dahan, and crowds waited eagerly for the Prime Minister’s arrival. However, heavy rain disrupted the event and forced organizers to cancel it at the last moment. People who had gathered in large numbers felt disappointed. The unexpected cancellation overshadowed the excitement of the festival.
The sudden downpour completely changed the mood of the evening. Tents collapsed, chairs got wet, and arrangements fell apart in minutes. The ground turned muddy and unsafe for the program. Though the police and administration had ensured tight security, no one could control the weather. For many people, it was a rare chance to see the Prime Minister live, which was lost. Their wait turned into frustration as they returned home in disappointment. This became the most talked-about moment of Delhi’s Dussehra.
Before the planned event, Prime Minister Modi had visited Gandhi Smriti earlier in the day. He paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Modi offered prayers and shared his thoughts on Gandhiji’s message of peace. Later, his schedule included attending the Ramlila, but the rain forced a change in plans. The contrast between morning tribute and evening cancellation became a major highlight. Many people linked it as a symbolic reminder of nature’s power over human arrangements.
One of the most striking aspects of Delhi’s cancellation was the massive security wasted. Nearly 20,000 personnel had been deployed to guard the venue for the Prime Minister. Roads were blocked, traffic diverted, and tight arrangements were in place. Yet the event could not happen. Questions are now being asked whether the program should have been shifted indoors or rescheduled. For now, the rain won over all preparations. The disappointment of the crowd remains the strongest memory of this Dussehra in Delhi.
While the Prime Minister could not attend, President Droupadi Murmu participated in the famous Lavkush Ramlila in Delhi. She performed the ritual of shooting the arrow to burn Ravan’s effigy. The crowd cheered with loud chants of “Jai Shri Ram.” The visuals of the President carrying forward the tradition became a moment of pride. It reminded everyone that the festival’s spirit cannot be stopped. Even when plans are disturbed, cultural practices continue strongly. This balance of disappointment and celebration defined this year’s Dussehra.
In Bihar’s capital Patna, Dussehra faced its own challenge. The tallest Ravan effigy of 80 feet was prepared at Gandhi Maidan. Thousands gathered to witness the grand burning. But rain again played spoilsport, and the giant effigy’s head broke off before the fire could reach it. Though the event continued, the moment of imperfection left many surprised. It showed how unpredictable weather can disrupt even the grandest of plans. Still, people’s enthusiasm did not fade, and the celebration carried on.
Across Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and several other states, Dussehra was celebrated with fireworks and cultural programs. Families gathered in grounds, children enjoyed fairs, and Ravan effigies were burnt amid cheers. Despite rain in some places, the festival spirit remained strong. Social media was full of pictures of crowds enjoying the rituals. From small towns to big cities, the victory of good over evil was celebrated in unity. This national energy reflected the deep cultural importance of Dussehra across India.
